On Saturday November 6th, Thrush Sports Performance Center will host the first ever Crossfit exclusive State Weightlifting Championships.  We are inviting all interested Crossfit affiliates and Crossfitters to enjoy one more opportunity to test their training and abilities against each other.  This is the first of what we hope will be an annual state level event leading up to a possible annual National Olympic Lifting Competition for Crossfit.

More info and entry form can be found on our Events page.

In other news, Calpian/TSP weightlifters Ashley Perkovich, Dean Beyer and Spencer Moorman are all attending the elite Junior Camp being held currently at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. They are enjoying working with new Resident Coach, Zygmund Smalcerz. Coach Thrush has known Zygmund for a number of years and is sure that he is giving the Calpians an exciting indoctrination into the real world of top level weightlifting. This will jump start them to the next level. These are three talented kids!!!

Congratulations to our 4 lifters that attended the National AAU Junior Olympics in Virginia. They all came away with medals. Jayde Wiitanen made all PRs to take the Bronze Medal at 85 Kgs. 15-16. Matty Wiitanen did a great job in placing Silver at 35 Kgs. 11 & Under. Sarah Skinner took the silver (barely missing out on Gold on body weight.) at 69 Kgs. 17-18. And last but not least, Daniel Wiitanen did big PRs to take Gold at 77 Kgs. 14-15 and to also take Best Lifter in his age group. A very successfult trip and very representative of how hard they worked to get ready for the competition. Another proud day for Calpian WL and Thrush Sports!!!!!!!!

Some damn fine squat cleans by a couple of high school football players:

I would bet this sort of strength and power carries over nicely to the field.

Don’t forget, entry forms for the Bad Mother Open are due one week from today on Monday August 9th!

Who’s the Baddest Lifter in the Land?

The annual Bad Mother Open weightlifting competition will be held at Thrush Sports Performance on Saturday August 14th. The title of Bad Mother is given not necessarily to the lifter who lifts the most weight but to the lifter who is “baddest”, based on such criteria as intensity, tenacity, and general physical intimidation. Come out and see if you might be the baddest lifter around! Entry forms and more info can be on found our Events page

Congratulations to all the lifters who competed in the Washington State Games today!

The next competition will be the Bad Mother Open which has been changed to Saturday August 14th. Entry forms will be up shortly, see you all then!

Washington weightlifters Dean Beyer and Ashley Perkovich have recently been informed they have qualified to represent the US at the Junior World Championships in Bulgaria. Unfortunately USA Weightlifting is not funding travel expenses for all athletes. If we all rally together we can help them get to Bulgaria and represent the US on the international platform!

There has been a schedule change for The Freak Show Open this Sat 5/15 in the Aberdeen High School Sam Benn Gymnasium. New schedule is as follows:
